What a real PDF redaction does

A black box can hide words without removing them. If the text is still underneath, someone may be able to select it, search for it, or recover it in another PDF viewer.

Papaya PDF keeps redaction marks editable while you review them. When you save or export, its PDF engine removes text covered by the marks and writes the filled redaction area into the output PDF.

For larger documents, Auto-Detect Sensitive Info can find likely emails, phone numbers, IDs, and financial numbers locally. Detection is not perfect, so review each suggestion before adding its redaction mark.

Marks over scanned pages or embedded images cover the visible area, but the original image bytes are not rewritten yet. Inspect those exports carefully before using them for sensitive material.

Review every mark before saving. Saved or exported PDFs cannot be unredacted in Papaya PDF, although you can undo the change while the document is still open.
